Risa Shaw is Assistant Professor at Gallaudet University in the Department of Interpretation. She co-authored the BA curriculum and the revised MA curriculum in interpretation at Gallaudet University. She also co-authored a curriculum on interpreting in legal settings that continues to be used throughout the US, including a fundamentals course and several specific focus courses (preparation, Deaf/Hearing interpreter teams, monitor role, law enforcement, role and ethics, jury duty, mock deposition). She holds degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Sociolinguistics (Ph.D.), Education: Teaching Interpretation (M.S.), Linguistics (B.A.), and Interpreting (A.A.). Risa is a highly sought after teacher of interpreters, consultant, and interpreter with a specialization in interpreting in legal settings. She holds the CSC, CI, and SC:L certifications from the RID. She has based her practice and lived in the Washington D.C. area since 1981. Risa is currently involved in conducting a study of interpreters working in legal settings.
