Lynda Remmel, MA, CSC, CI, CT, SC:L has been a practitioner and educator for more than 35 years. Her commitment to standards for legal interpreters includes serving on the RID Test Development Task Force for the current SC: L exam. Lynda has been involved with standards in Colorado since 1986 and currently serves on the Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Legal Advisory working directly on new regulations for the recently revised Colorado Statute specific to legal interpreting. She developed and has continually updated the 50-hour curriculum for the foundational Legal Interpreting Seminar required by the state of Colorado and has taught it numerous times; for the past 15 years teaching it with Rachel Naiman, MA, MS, CDI, CLIP-R. This Seminar has been adapted and taught in several other states as well. Her other teaching experience includes serving as a skills specialist for the Legal Interpreting Program through the DO-IT Center; as a faculty member for the American Judicature Society workshops on "Improving Access to the Courts for People Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing"; and teaching, with Deaf colleagues, workshops for Deaf interpreters and Deaf-hearing teams. She has taught numerous other offerings at the national, regional, state and local levels. Currently she is full time program coordinator and faculty for the Interpreter Preparation Program at Front Range Community College.

Guided Forum: A New Look at Qualifying Legal Interpreters

This forum will address the current SC:L and other approaches to qualifying legal interpreters. Participants will discuss issues re: standardization of qualifying legal interpreters and options for more effectively verifying qualifications of interpreters working in legal settings.
