Janice ("Jan") Humphrey, Ed. D., SC:L, NIC-Adv, CSC, COI grew up in Amarillo, Texas, where she learned ASL through interaction with members of the Deaf community. She has worked as an interpreter for more than 40 years, specializing in legal, mental health and religious settings. Jan is a video producer, author, as well as an internationally renowned and engaging presenter. Currently working in Seattle, WA, she works as the Manager of Recruitment, Interpreting and Interpreter Development for SignOn: A Sign Language Interpreting Resource, Inc.

 

Jan has held numerous positions with professional interpreter and interpreter education organizations, including:

 

> President - Washington State Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf
   - 2009-2011

> Chair of Professional Standards committee - Washington State Registry of
   Interpreters for the Deaf, 2004 - 2006; Westcoast Association of Visual
   Language Interpreters (WAVLI) -1999 - 2001;

> Secretary - Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (AVLIC)
   - 1994-96;

> President - Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) -1989-91;

> President - Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT) -1981-86.
